Andrew has acted as an independent pension scheme trustee for over 20 years for a variety of single and multi-employer schemes and in 2020 received full accreditation as a Professional Trustee by the Pensions Management Institute. He has spent the majority of his career in the pensions industry since qualifying as a lawyer in 1984. Andrew spent 11 years working in the City of London for an International law firm providing specialist pensions advice to pension trustees and sponsors. Since 1996 Andrew has been Director of 2 Pension trustee companies and also supported trustees as an equity partner in 3 National law firms where he has headed the pension practices.
Andrew is a member of the Pensions Management Institute in London having previously served on the technical sub-committee and he is a former Chair of the North West Pensions Management Institute Group. He is a member of the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association and a qualified mediator with the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution. Andrew has been a member of the Charity Law Association for many years in connection with his work for charity pension schemes. During his time working in the City of London, Andrew also served in the Territorial Arny where he developed robust strategic, leadership and team development skills. In March 2017 Andrew was appointed by the Minister for Defence Personnel and Veterans to serve on the Veterans Advisory and Pensions Advisory Committee North West.
Andrew is passionate about good scheme governance and relishes not only dealing with the day to day activities of schemes but also getting involved in projects. He has particular expertise in restructuring, corporate transactions and scheme mergers. He is well verse in handling disputes, whether member related or more fundamental aspects involving scheme governance.
Andrew still holds a current legal practising certificate and continues to maintain his link with the legal profession as a part-time consultant to the pensions practice of a national law firm.
During his 40 year career Andrew has acted for a host of household names, international and UK based organisations handling all aspects of occupational pension schemes within the private, public, third and co-operative sectors.
Helen Ashley Taylor
Helen’s introduction to the world of pension schemes began as a trainee accountant with the accountancy firm EY– when she was part of the audit teams for 3 of the UK’s largest pension schemes for 2 years. A diverse career spanning 3 decades has seen Helen work in senior finance, governance, compliance and board roles across the private, public and third sectors. She is particularly familiar with the regulatory requirements of The Pensions Regulator, the Charity Commission, the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority. Helen has worked in the former legal and compliance directorate at The Charity Commission and has served as a Non-Executive Director in a controlled function of a financial services institution as an ‘approved person’ by the Prudential Regulation Authority. As a qualified chartered company secretary and experienced governance professional, Helen is used to keeping abreast of increased regulatory demands. Her work in the charitable, mutual and co-operative sectors, including as a building society NED, provided valuable experience in member engagement matters.
Helen’s Non-Executive Director experience over the past three decades has seen her serve on several boards and committees including serving on the Risk, Audit, Compliance and Ethics (RACE) committee and chairing a Nominations Committee whilst a NED of a building society, recently serving on 2 national technical accounting committees for the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants as well as several charity Trusteeships and one public sector board appointment on the Veterans Advisory and Pensions Committee. Helen currently serves on the Audit and Risk Committee of The Church of England Pensions Board.
In addition to over 25 years post-qualification experience as a qualified accountant, Helen is a qualified Chartered Secretary and Chartered Governance Professional and has completed the Pensions Regulator trustee toolkit training. In 2022 Helen was recognised in the annual Governance Hot100 awards in the Governance Trailblazer category for “forward thinkers that raise the standards of corporate governance beyond what is expected”.
